CHA Lowden Homes Window Replacement

Location: CHA Lowden Homes; Chicago, IL
Role: Architect of Record
Client: Chicago Housing Authority

Project scope of work: Replacement of 935 windows in (18) 2-story residential buildings, containing a total of 127 apartment units. The existing windows were difficult to operate, in poor condition, and created dangerous hazards. Historically accurate, contemporary, energy-efficient windows that match the material type, profile, and operation of the original windows will be installed for this large-scale replacement. In addition, the existing conditions of the wall assembly associated with the windows of the Lowden Housing Complex will also be assessed to determine repairs and/or replacement of brick masonry, steel lintels, stone sills, and interior wall cavity elements, such as flashing and pressure-treated blocking. The required scope of work has been documented and described such that the selected General Contractor will be able to provide unit costs for each potential type of repair and/or replacement of materials associated with the windows.
